Unclaimed or Uncashed Checks

In Accordance with MGL Chapter 200A Section 9A, The Town of Princeton must post a notice on the Town’s official website listing uncashed checks older than one year.  The notice must contain the Payee name, the method to claim a replacement, and the deadline to make contact.  The deadline must be at least 60 days out.

Deadline to claim December 19, 2024 published checks: February 17, 2025

Deadline to claim January 14, 2025 published checks: March 17, 2025

Interested parties may obtain information by contacting the Princeton Treasurer and should submit an Indemnification Form along with a W9. 

After failure to respond within the sixty days, the Town must publish the remaining list in a local newspaper with an additional 60 day claim period.

For items under $100, the publication requirement has been satisfied.  For items $100 or more, a second publication is required.  This time the deadline is one year or more.

After the one year, the Town must record as revenue all unclaimed items of any amount.  There is no further liability to the Town.
