Conservation Commission

John H. Hitchcock Fund

Income only to be used for such purposes as the Conservation Commission deems advisable; entire principal or portion thereof, may be used for the general purposes of the Town if the Town appropriates matching funds of an equal or greater amount applies the funds to a project(s) authorized by the Inhabitants of the Town. (Letter from Executor of Estate June 29, 1989).

Dr. John J. Connor Jr. Trust

Income to be used for the purpose of providing awards annually to the two Princeton eighth grade students who best demonstrate the qualities of motivation, energy, community building, creativity, leadership and citizenship. (July 19, 2006)

E.A. Goodnow Park

E.A. Goodnow Park

Income to be used for care and maintenance of said Park. (Town Meeting March 6, 1893)

Farmers and Mechanics Association Fund

Income to be paid annually to the Park Commission to be expended for the improvement of Goodnow Park. (Town Meeting vote April 5, 1897).

Education

J.H. Temple

Income to be applied annually to the support of Public Schools of the Town of Princeton. (Town Mtg vote April 1, 1907).

Madeline Fife Memorial

Income to be used to fund a scholarship to be awarded to a student who has attended the Princeton Schools and who has excelled in the field of mathematics. (Special Town Meeting vote, November 18, 1985).

Josiah D. Gregory

Income to be used as prizes for excellence in English or general improvement during the school year as the School Committee and Teachers shall decide. (Town Mtg vote February 7, 1927).

Elsie L. Vaughn English Scholarship Fund

Income and principal, if necessary, therefrom to be used to fund two eighth grade English prizes, one to a boy and one to a girl, as chosen by the local eight grade English teachers. The initial amount of the awards to be $150 each, with future amounts to be at the discretion of the Trustees. (September 14, 2005)

Charles H. Hall Scholarship Fund

The principal to be kept invested by the Trustees of Trust Funds and the income therefrom to be awarded by the Commissioners of the Princeton Light Department as a scholarship to a Princeton student graduation from high school and matriculating at any accredited institution with the intent to pursue a career related to the utility industry

Financial Assistance

Princeton Community Trust

Receive, manage and distribute funds as may be provided or donated to the Trust for the benefit of Princeton residents in need of financial assistance. All earnings of the Trust as well as up to 25% of the capital may be expended in any given year. (Adopted at Town Meeting, May 11, 2010).

Boylston Widows Fund

Interest annually applied: ½ to indigent female orphans under the age of 14; ½ to the poor widows, if not applied to first class, whole may be applied to second. Surplus interest may be applied to principal.

Sarah Brooks Fund

Income to be expended on “Deserving Poor” of the Town of Princeton. (Town Meeting December 16, 1949).

Hadley Memorial Fund

Income to be used for assistance of indigent inhabitants. (Town Meeting November 5, 1912).

Library

E.A. Goodnow Memorial Building Fund

  1. To pay to the Ladies Village Improvement Society in said town the sum of $50 annually in semi-annual payments the whole to be used and expended in procuring and planting ornamental trees, shrubs, vines and flowers in and upon the grounds of the said estate, and caring for, nurturing, trimming and improving the same;
  2. To pay to Library Trustees the sum of $50 annually, in semi-annual payments, to be used for the purchase of books, provided that the Town shall appropriate, each and every year, the further sum of $50 to be expended by said Trustees for the same purpose; and
  3. To pay to the Library Trustees the remainder of the income yearly, in semi-annual payments, to be applied first towards keeping the building and grounds and the walls and fences around them in good condition and repair, and next towards the purchase of books for the library in their discretion. (Town vote February 7, 1884).

E.A. Goodnow Library Fund

Annual income first applied to make whole principal in case of any loss and thereafter exclusively for the purchase of books. (Town Vote, April 3, 1905)

Goodnow Memorial Library Endowment Fund

Principal, including any other gifts added to the Fund, to be kept invested, with income to be used for such library purposes as the Trustees may designate. (Town Vote March 4, 1969).  $50 added to above in May 1978

Eli Kilburn

Income to be expended annually in books for a Free Social Library, the books to be of good moral character, such as Histories, Biographies and Scientific and the like, the income to be expended by a committee, and to report to the Town once a year of their doings thereon. (Town Vote November 4, 1890).

Grace H. Burr

Income to be used by Trustees of Goodnow Memorial Library as follows: ½ for purchase of books on horticulture, ½ for general purposes of such library. (Town Meeting Vote, December 30, 1970); $500 added as donation to trust by Alan Burr March 1976.

Thorne Caldwell

Income to be used by Trustees of Goodnow Memorial Library for general purposes of such library. (Town Meeting Vote June 20, 1972).

Alfred K. Pearson

Income therefrom to be used by the Trustees of the Goodnow Memorial Library for general purposes of such library. (Special Town Meeting vote, November 15, 1985).

Cassandra Camp

Income to be used by Trustees of Goodnow Memorial Library for purchase of books and other materials relating to poetry and skiing, any income unexpended in any fiscal year to be added to principal. (Town Meeting vote March 7, 1972).

Cornelia Forbes

Principal to be held and invested in such types of investments as are authorized by law which will produce maximum income and the income therefrom to be used as follows: ¼ income to be added to principal annually, and ¾ to be used by Trustees of Goodnow Memorial Library for general library purposes. (Town Meeting vote May 13, 1980).

Caroline Mason

Income to be used by Trustees of Goodnow Memorial Library for purchase of nature books and periodicals. (Town Meeting vote December 30, 1968).

Kathleen Connor Matzilevich

Income to be used by Trustees of Goodnow Memorial Library for purchase of books for young adults, provided the Trustees shall consult with a member of the Dr. John J. Connor, Jr. Family with respect to such purchases in any year in which a request for a consultation is received from a member of such family. (Town Meeting vote May 14, 1974).

Margaret Poole

Principal to be held and invested in such types of investments as are authorized by law which will produce maximum income, ¼ of income to be added to principal annually, and ¾ to be used by Trustees of Goodnow Memorial Library at their discretion for general library for the purchase of large print books and/or books on gardening or nutrition. (Town Meeting vote May 9,  1978).

Donald Lapointe

Income only to be used for purchasing non-fiction books selected by the Library Director of Goodnow Memorial Library (Town Meeting vote November 13, 1990).

Lynch Endowment

One half (1/2) income to be added to principal, one half (1/2) to be used by Trustees for general purposes at their discretion.

David Hoyt Gregory Fund

The interest of this fund is to be used  by the Trustees of the Goodnow Memorial Building. (January 3, 1939)

Florence Olenhouse Davis Memorial Fund

One quarter (1/4) thereof to be added to principal annually, and three quarters (3/4) thereof to be used by the Trustees of the Goodnow Memorial Library at their discretion for general library purposes. (August 22, 1988)

Salary of Minister

Ministerial Fund

All income to be applied to salary of minister. (Will of Ward Nicholas Boylston, Town Meeting Vote October 19, 1829).

Tennis

Chandler Bullock Tennis Memorial Tennis Fund

Income to be used to defray expenses connected with annual Tennis Tournaments, Committee established for management. Excess income shall be added to the principal until principal shall equal $1,500. Thereafter, the Committee may allow any such excess income to accumulate, or expend the same to provide, establish and maintain public tennis facilities in the Town. Upon vote of the Town, any principal in excess of $1,500 may be used for similar purposes. All expenditures of income shall be made under the supervision and with approval of the Committee. (Town Mtg vote December 28, 1962). $752.50 added to fund from the Chandler Bullock Tennis Committee (Town Meeting April 30, 1979).
