Part-time Police Officer Job Opening

The Princeton Police Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Part-time Police Officer. We encourage applicants with diverse personal, professional, and educational backgrounds to apply.

Minimum Qualifications

Training (one of)

  • Graduation from a full-time Massachusetts Police Training Committee (MPTC) certified police academy
  • Completion of the Massachusetts Bridge Police Academy (MPTC) with certification to work as a full-time officer
  • Eligibility for a waiver from the MPTC for attending a certified police academy and meeting the qualifications outlined in 555 CMR 3.03(a)

Skills

  • Clear and concise communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Sound judgment under stress
  • The ability to enforce laws impartially
  • Good collaboration skills

Other

  • U.S. citizen
  • At least 21 years of age at the time of appointment
  • Hold a High School Diploma or GED (a college degree from an accredited institution is preferred)
  • Possess or be able to obtain a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License
  • Possess of be able to obtain a License to Carry Firearms
  • Retirement is mandatory at age 65

Job Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Patrolling to observe and detect unusual activities
  • Directing and expediting traffic flow and assisting the public with inquiries
  • Investigating crimes, alarms, accidents, and emergencies
  • Making arrests and enforcing laws impartially
  • Gathering evidence and identifying witnesses, victims, or suspects
  • Preparing reports and appearing in court as necessary
  • Serving warrants, summonses, and subpoenas
  • Maintaining police equipment and vehicles
  • Collaborating with other department members to achieve objectives
  • Engaging with the community to address quality-of-life issues, including crime prevention, fear of crime, and disorder

Schedule

This is a part-time, per-diem position requiring availability to cover open shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Compensation

  • Starting Hourly Rate: $22.67 (per union contract effective through June 30, 2026)
  • Officers with prior experience may be placed on a higher pay step

Additional Benefits:

  • $200 annual cleaning allowance
  • $850 EMT stipend
  • Shift differential stipends for evening and overnight shifts
