Before you start
Don’t wait until the last minute to make your request
By Massachusetts law, the Tax Collector has 20 business days from the time the request is received to generate the Municipal Lien Certificate.
Determine how many Certificates you need
If the property owner receives more than one tax bill for the residence, then more than one Municipal Lien Certificate may be required.
What you will need to provide
- Current property owner
- Property address
- Parcel ID (if you don’t have this, please contact the Assessor’s office at 978-464-2104)

Information to include with your request
- Current owner
- Property address
- Parcel ID (or IDs)
- A check made payable to the Town of Princeton in the amount of $25.00 per parcel
- A stamped, self-addressed envelope

What you should expect
- Every attempt is made to shorten the turnaround time
- During busy times of the year, it may take the entire 20 days allowed by law to process your request
