Review of Meeting Minutes from April 14, 2025– The meeting minutes from April 14, 2025 were reviewed by members and approved as written by unanimous vote, 4-0 (P. Constantino was missing for this vote).
Superintendent Report (see attached report for details)
There were 2 full burials last month, one in North and one in Woodlawn 1986 section.
10 Burial lots were sold in North Cemetery. Only one established lot remains unsold; there may be space to designate a few more lots.
The lots in North were mistakenly sold for the price of cremation lots even though they are full-size lots, due to some confusion about the fact they are designated for cremation remains only. Superintendent Mazyck will work with the buyers in light of the error, and the Commission will look into the language describing lot sales and usage in North to see if clarification is called for.
A new memorial stone was installed without notice or pre-approval in Woodlawn. The stone also appears to be incorrectly placed too closely to the adjoining lot. The Superintendent will determine who installed the monument and take steps to remedy the situation.
Ground Radar- The proposition of using ground penetrating radar to determine whether a number of graves in several town cemeteries are unoccupied and available for sale was discussed at the previous meeting. The cost for one day’s service by the special contractor would be $2000, and approximately 38 lots would be surveyed.
A motion was made by L. Grettum to see if Members would approve spending $2,000.00 from the Cemetery Revolving Fund to carry out the radar survey. The motion was approved by unanimous vote of 5-0.
Flowers for Woodlawn Urns– M. Cumming volunteered to obtain flowers for the urns at the entrance gate of Woodlawn Cemetery, and to keep them watered over the summer.
Long Range Plan – Continued
A final draft of the LRP was presented by Chair Grettum for review by the Commission. Various changes to the previous text and new material in the Conclusions & Recommendations section and the Executive Summary were reviewed by Members.
Members were satisfied with the overall document after suggesting some minor edits. The report will be finalized by L. Grettum for submission in the next couple of weeks.
Items not anticipated by the Chair 48 hours before meeting– None.
Topics for Upcoming Meeting– L. Grettum to finalize the LRP report for submission.
Schedule Next Meeting- Chair Grettum scheduled the next meeting for Monday June 9, 2025 to start at 7:00 P.M. in the Town Hall Annex – Small Meeting Room and remotely by GoToMeeting.
A motion was made to adjourn, seconded, and passed unanimously.
Meeting adjourned at 8:22 P.M.
