Make a Public Records Request

These guidelines are intended to assist you with gaining access to public records in the custody of the Town of Princeton.

Records Access Officers

Where to Submit Request

  • In person at the Princeton Town Hall
  • By first class mail addressed to the Records Access Officer
  • By email or fax to the Records Access Officer (978-464-2106)

For Timely and Complete Responses

  • For the most efficient and accurate response, put your request in writing
  • Be as specific as possible
  • You may be asked for more information or clarification so the Records Access Officer can respond more completely

For In Person Requests

Anonymous

  • You can make your request anonymously
  • If the request requires additional time, you will be asked to check back periodically with the Records Access Officer

Named

  • The Town Hall has a voluntary Public Records Request Form you can use

Receipt of Requests

  • Written requests received during regular business hours will be considered received on that date
  • Written requests sent by email or FAX after business hours will be considered received the next business day

Fees

  • You may be assessed a reasonable fee for the production of records
  • You will receive a written estimate of those fees. BEFORE THEY ARE INCURRED???

Some Types of Fees that May be Assessed

  • Five cents ($0.05) per page of black and white printouts or copies
  • Actual cost for storage devices or materials such as CDs or thumb/flash drives
  • Actual cost for non-standard copies such as color copies and large format plans
  • Postage fees where applicable
  • Fees for employee time required to satisfy the request

Responses to Public Records Requests

  • If a full response cannot be made within 10 business days, you will receive, in writing, the anticipated timeframe for a response
  • You may be referred to the Town’s website for some documents
  • If you can’t access the website, let the Records Access Officer know
