The Board of Health performs, on the local level, many important duties relative to the protection of public health, the control of disease, the promotion of sanitary living conditions, and the protection of the environment from damage and pollution. Some of those duties are:
- Disease reporting, investigation, and follow-up
- Drinking water
- Emergency readiness, planning, and collaboration with local and regional departments
- Food safety
- Health promotion and disease prevention
- Stable permits and manure management
- Trash and recycling
- Septic systems
