Cemetery Monuments
Required before Installation of Monument
- All monument placements and installations must have the permission of the Cemetery
Superintendent before being installed, erected, or placed - An Application for Installation must be submitted to and approved by the Cemetery Superintendent
- The Superintendent reserves the right to reject any plan or design for a memorial which on account of size, design, inscription, finish, or quality of stone is unsuited to the lot on which it is to be placed
Application for Installation of Monument
- Download and fill out the Monument Permit Application document
- Send it and the sketch or blueprint to the Cemetery Superintendent
Monument Guidelines
Footings
- All monuments must have footings
- The monument company is responsible for installing footings
- All footings must be poured concrete, installed to a depth of three (3) feet below
grade - The length and width of all footings must be at least the length and width
dimensions of the base of the monument to be erected upon it - The Cemetery Superintendent will mark the location of the foundation after the
Monument Permit Application is approved - Installation of the footings must be witnessed by the Cemetery Superintendent
or a designated representative and completed during normal business hours,
Monday -Thursday 8AM to 4PM - Work will cease in the event of a funeral service
- Upon the completion of the foundation, the installer is responsible for cleanup
and removal of fill from cemetery
Maximum dimensions, inclusive of base, for monuments
- Single grave: 2’W x 1’D x 3’H
- Two/Three grave lot: 3’W x 1’D x 3’H
- Four Grave Lot: 4’W x 1’D x 3’H
- Flush Marker, if preferred over upright monument: 2’W x 1’D
- Designated Cremation Lots: 2’W x 1’D x 3’H
Other
- Monument maintenance and repair is the sole responsibility, financial or otherwise, of
owners and/or family of the lot on which it stands - The Town of Princeton reserves the right to temporarily move monuments to facilitate the
digging of graves
