Cemetery Lot Purchases

Lots are conveyed by a deed which gives the purchaser the sole and exclusive right of burial and to provide an approved memorial. Ownership of the land remains with the Town of Princeton and is subject to the rules and regulations of the Princeton Cemetery Department and Massachusetts General Law Chapter 114.

Lot Purchases

  • Lots are sold by appointment during business hours
  • Residents who wish to purchase lots must contact the Cemetery Superintendent
  • Full payment is expected at the time of purchase
  • A lot purchase is not final until the deed is signed by the Selectboard
  • It is the duty of the lot owner to notify the Cemetery Commission of any changes in the owner’s mailing address. Notice sent to the lot owner at the last address on file in the Cemetery Department files shall be considered sufficient and proper legal notification.
  • All general cemetery notices, such as revision and/or adoption of rules and regulations, or
notice of seasonal cleanup, shall be deemed announced when published on the Town of
Princeton website at www.us or the grounds of the cemeteries.

  • The Commission may, at its discretion, agree to repurchase a lot or lots from the deed holder
  • The amount paid for the repurchase of a lot will be the original amount paid for the lot, but not less than $100 per grave
  • The Town Clerk filing fee is not refundable
